Hero911: Rapid Response for Law Enforcement Officers
Hero911 is an iPhone application designed exclusively for active law enforcement officers and qualified retired officers. Developed by Guard911 LLC, this app is part of the Hero Network™, a voluntary foundation of federal, state, and local law enforcement officers. Its main objective is to reduce law enforcement response time to active school shooting incidents.
Once installed, Hero911 alerts all on-duty and off-duty officers in close proximity to an active school shooting emergency. The app provides real-time alerts, displays the location of the school on a map, and reports the number of uniformed and plainclothes officers who have acknowledged the alert. Additionally, it includes a timer from the onset of the initial alert.
Hero911 is integrated with the emergency response system and simultaneously calls the appropriate 911 call center. It encourages all law enforcement officers, including certified retirees, to download the app and join the Hero Network™. However, before activation, officers must go through a vetting process to ensure their status as law enforcement personnel.
It is important to note that the app uses GPS, which may significantly decrease battery life if running in the background. With its focus on rapid response and enhanced coordination, Hero911 is a valuable tool for law enforcement officers in active shooter situations.
